It is a part of our mission at Worcester Islamic Center to be able to prepare our community members for a lifelong commitment towards the learning of the sacred sciences and a deep sense of social responsibility. Our vision is to provide an education that enables students to establish faith (Iman), practice (Islam), and excellence (Ihsan) first and foremost in their own lives and prepares them to be able to contribute more fully towards a complex changing society. We offer classes in an academic semester style schedule.

For Fall 2021, there will be 2 classes offered: Tazkiya (World of our Hearts) and Legal Maxims.

Course Description:

Instructor: Imam Asif Hirani.

Dates: Sep 13th to Nov 10th

Time/Days of week: 730PM on Monday and Wednesday

This course will help develop your ability to understand how to keep our hearts clean.

Unfortunately, emotions like pride, arrogance, jealousy, ego, fame, stinginess, showing off, love of recognition, desires, anger, laziness, hypocrisy, love of dunya and wrong actions like cheating, backbiting, slander prevent a person from attaining their hearts full potential to guide themselves. These emotional issues are the root of a vast majority of issues in our personal and communal life. It is essential that these negative emotions be curbed and strongly controlled so a person can be connected to Allah (SWT). Classes will be in person and on zoom! It will be from September 13th to November 10th (every Monday & Wednesday) at 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm EST!

Special thanks to our sponsors: Islamic Relief, IMRC, Amana mutual funds, UIF, Sam’s Food stores and Sam’s Children

Legal Maxims

Course Description:

Instructor: Imam Asif Hirani

Dates: Sep 16th to Nov 11th

Time/Days of week: 730PM on Thursday

This course is about qawa`id fiqhiyyah, which are sometimes referred to as legal maxims. Maxims are short principles to summarize our laws. For example, a Maxim in American law is innocence is presumed until proven guilty. However, qawaid fiqhiya is richer in its application and references. It plays a much wider and more effective role as compared to simple legal maxims.

We will study 5 core maxims which are agreed upon and the most relevant in the Fiqh chapters. We will also discuss sub-maxims which are based off of the core maxims. Lastly, we will discuss the practical application of these maxims in our daily lives.

The class will be every Thursday from 7:30PM to 8:30PM starting from September 16th to November 11th. This is an intermediate level class intended for individuals who have previously taken a fiqh course or Islamic studies course. Due to the nature of the material, we are limiting registration to keep a small class size. Once you register, a phone interview will be scheduled as well.
